Science Week
Insect Specimens
1st class enjoyed their time looking at insect specimens using a magnifying glass for Science Week. We looked in detail at the body parts and features of bumblebees and butterflies. We talked about how important these insects are for pollination and their roles in our ecosystem.

Science Experiments
We walked on air with balloons, we also did some other fun experiments where we made a hypothesis and recorded our results.
Autumn 2021 Handmade Willow Wreaths
First class handmade wreaths by bending the twigs of Willow trees. We then looked at the ID of tree leaves and used these to decorate our wreath.
Halloween Fun
The children dressed up in Halloween costumes. We played lots of fun games in class and carried out some science experiments. We caused a chemical reaction with vinegar and baking soda to make carbon dioxide.
Christmas Wreaths
The children made these wreaths and wrote letters for elderly people in the nursing homes.

Someone Like Me- The children were made more aware of disabilities that other people and children have. It gave them a greater understanding of what unites children of differing abilities. The children created art to show what they learned about being inclusive of all children.
Balloon Boarding 💫 The children had great fun ‘Balloon Boarding’ while finding out about Forces and Motion. They predicted would the balloons burst when a table was put on them. They were so surprised that the balloons didn’t even burst when they stood on them! #science #predicting #stem
The winner of the 2020 u7 Credit Union competition - Adrijis. Well done.
Science Week 2020- Balloons, Baking Soda & Vinegar Experiment
Skittles Experiment-1st class were fascinated with this experiment today which needed teamwork. Skittles are coated in food colouring and sugar. When you pour water over them, the coloured coating dissolves, spreading through the water!
The children in 1st class showed leadership skills when deciding what actions to take to create these carbon dioxide filled balloons. There was great excitement when the baking soda and vinegar reacted.
Magic Milk Experiment
Static Experiment- We created energy by rubbing the balloon on a wool jumper and watched in amazement as the tissue paper flew magically towards it using static electricity . We then tried the energized balloon on our hair.
In November, we remember. We painted a class rainbow and coloured in a butterfly for anyone we miss who has passed away.
Procedural Writing: How to Make Chocolate Apples ... mmm!
