On Monday we gathered together in the hall for our whole school assembly. We had lots of nominations so far this term for our latest Changemaker students who have recently shown the characteristics of empathy, teamwork, creativity and/or leadership. Mr Dowd awarded each Changemaker with a certificate and wristband and there were smiles all round. We also had a visit from the lovely Niamh McCann who, on behalf of CJ’s Rainbow Charity, accepted our donation of €500 which was raised by the students last term. 🌈 6th class created a video to show their learning about ‘Breathing and the Respiratory System’ which will be entered into the ReelLIFE Science competition.
🚩Flag Raising 🚩
Last Friday, 20th September, marked a very special day of celebration for our school as we raised our most recent flag awards. We began by gathering together in our school gym for the Beginning of Year School Mass, celebrated by Fr John McManus. The children sang hymns, read readings and prayers, and offered up symbolic gifts to mark our new school year ahead. Soon afterwards we congregated outside the school for our eagerly awaited flag raising! Three special people were invited to raise the flags. Fr John raised Tarmon’s newest Green Flag which marks the work carried out in each class on the themes of Global Citizenship, Litter and Waste. Aoife O’ Rourke raised our DCU Changemaker School Flag which marks our status as one of Ireland’s 19 Changemaker Schools. The Changemaker pillars of Empathy, Creativity, Leadership and Teamwork form the foundation of much of our teaching and learning in Tarmon. Marie Baggott raised our Cineáltas flag which marks the school’s work in promoting kindness amongst our students and wider community. No doubt everyone felt a great sense of pride and achievement as the flags were raised after all the hard work and dedication put into achieving each one of these awards! 5th and 6th class visited the Centre of Excellence in Bekan yesterday. Some of the children were never there before so they really enjoyed the experience as part of Connacht GAA.
