We had great fun this week in our STEAM programme in Fifth Class!
We had to make a pulley first and then we made windmills. We learned about windmills and how they turn wind into electricity. Third class designed and painted bird houses in pairs during art class. They filled them with bird seed and placed them in the school garden. They are very proud of their work and are looking forward to bird watching in the future 🦜🏠🌰🎨
Third and Fouth Class visited Castlerea library today and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Many children requested to join the library and will be offered a card to sign up for membership next week. Some existing members enthusiastically borrowed books today. 📚
Thank you again to Bríd and Michelle for their warm welcome! We held a prayer service in our hall today as part of Catholic Schools’ Week. This year’s theme is “Walking together in faith and love.”
Happy Grandparents Day also to all of our wonderful grandparents! Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First Class and Second Class thoroughly enjoyed their class trips to Castlerea Library on Friday last. A huge thank you to Michelle and Bríd for your warm welcome and lovely storytelling. Here are some photos of First Class who can't wait to visit again soon. Third Class have been busy learning to code with Scratch. They can now make their sprite move along the x and y co-ordinates, change costume and repeat codes. Exciting work from this talented bunch! Check out https://scratch.mit.edu/ to explore it further at home!
Take a look at our STEAM programme in 5th class where we made paper towers and a bridge using lollipop sticks.
We had to make paper towers using only 3 sheets of paper and see who could make the tallest one. We had to create a bridge using lollipop sticks. The bridge had to be able to hold up the weight of a book. |
